Ph2 injector change

  clio 172
I'm looking to change an injector on my ph2 172. I've removed the rail guard and undone the two bolts for the rail and unplugged the injectors. To get the rail off to I just need to pull it to pull the injectors out of the lower inlet or should I unclip the injectors from the rail and then remove the injector I want to change? ( the injectors are putting up some resistance so I don't want to pull too hard and damage anything ) I need to change the injector for cylinder 3 so haven't removed the fuel line if I can get away with it.
Cheers

Once everything connected to them has been removed they simply pull out, they can be abit of a pain if they have never been removed before. I had the same issue when one of mine went last year.

Right, after a small petrol shower ( mmmm petrol ) the injector has been changed everything reconnected but I still have a clio that is making a good impression of being a scooby. I've changed the plugs already so its not those. Po303 fault code showed open cylinder circuit on 3. I don't really want to throw more money at it by guessing what else is wrong. Are there anymore tests I can do to work out what's causing the misfire? What other causes are there? Coil pack, leads, lambdas ?

I'll have have to check tomorrow I'm off to watch my team play rugby now. Cheers for your help fred, I'll let you know how I get on.

I've now replaced the coilpack but that hasn't cured the misfire. What else can i check and what test are there to check them? ( i dont want to keep buying parts that arent solving the problem ) HT leads would be next on my agenda to replace.

Seems like we have exactly the same problem! This morning i quickly went inside my house because i forgot something and i've let the car idle in front of my house. When i got back in the car and i wanted to drive to my work the car sounded like a Scooby and was down on power, also the EML light was on, constant then flashing then constant etc. So i removed the sparkplugs ( OEM NGK ones only 3k old!!) to find out on 2 plugs the white isolation was broken?!?!
So i immediately bought new ones and changed them but still the same problem! So i booked the car in at a local Renault dealer to get some fault reading. It showed that there was a fault on the coilpack and a red error (god knows why he said a red fault code ??) on injector 3. Now i know that when a coilpack is broken it can break a sparkplug so that was clear to me the coilpack have to be changed anyway. Tomorrow they will call me on what exactly is wrong with it and what the price will be, will let you know the outcome if it is helpful to you?

  clio 172
yeah that would be great, i would definately be interested to know what they say, the spark plugs i removed looked fine, im not sure how many miles they had done but they were OEM NGK. Very frustrating fault to track down. I hope they find your fault and dont charge you the value of your car for it!

Well as the 172's are cheap in the UK, mine is around €5500,- worth here in Holland so don't think it will be that high! The guy who booked in my car said that replacing a coilpack incl the coilpack itself should cost me around €120,- i don't think that's an absurd amount of money considering it's a Renault dealer

leads are the only thing on my engine that actually needed to be replaced, sucks as I changed plugs, coilpack and had injectors flow tested before finding out it was only a dying leads causing a missfire.

Ok, the garage called and injector nr 3 is broken. So they will order it today and tomorrow they will mount and clean the complete injection system, he thinks that the fault on the coilpack will disapear once they change the injector so fingers crosses on this one!

  clio 172
Thanks for the update, i replaced my injector but that hasnt made a difference, its hard to work on the car myself because of working and then when i get home its dark! I'm getting a local mechanic to test the HT leads and do a compression test on the 3rd cylinder today. fingers crossed its the leads!

decent code reader mate or you'll be ploughing more money into guessing. Nip to renault or find someone local who has renault clip and they will be able to tell you easily where the issue lies.

  clio 172
I've had it on a code reader threw up P0303 i think it was which points to an open injector cylinder 3 circuit or something like that ( cant remember off the top of my head ) but that can still be caused by a few different things, Spark plugs probably needed a change as i've never had them done in the 2 years ive had the car, not sure when they were last changed. Have a spare injector now, just frustrating i've not found the fault quickly and not having the use of the car at the moment. I'm hoping the fault gets found today

Hooray got my car back today and only injector nr.3 was broken, my car was picked up by someone else so have to drive my car after work to see if its fine and i'll let you know how it drives

  clio 172
Glad you got it sorted mate, i'm having new HT leads fitted tomorrow, compression tests were fine thankfully so fingers crossed i'll have my car back tomorrow

  clio 172
Car is now sorted and i have a smile back on my face. The misfire was caused by the HT leads. Going to treat the car to a new stainless steel cat back exhaust now...

I can recommend the supersprint that's sold by KAM racing, check my supersprint appreciation thread. If you don't like the raspy sound from the Yozza's but still want noise, then look no further! It is à bit loud but it maken me smile everytime i floor it!

  clio 172
Thats exactly what im going for. I cant wait for the new BTM exhaust besides i want a stealth option.
Not a happy bunny today though, the car ran fine for around 2 minutes and now the misfire is back. I'm wondering is the hole in the back box is affecting the lambda sensor somehow. Back to diagnostics tomorrow....

  Meg 225
I don't think a hole in the backbox can cause à misfire as its after the lambda sensor. I guess you also have a injector problem, go let the diagnostics tell you what is wrong, it also could be a injector plug, the coilpack or soms wiring.
You wont regret your choice for the Supersprint! Do you order the system with or without mid silencer? Catback or decat??

  clio 172
I've already changed the coilpack, spark plugs HT leads and the injector for cylinder 3 which was the fault the diagnostics found. I wouldnt have thought the blowing exhaust would cause the lambda sensor to misbehave, of course it could just be broken by itself....
I'm going for Cat back without the centre silencer. 1 because its cheaper and 2 i want it loud!

  Meg 225
Believe me it will be loud!! Make sure you post a vid of it once you've fitted it!
Just to make sure, sorry as i don't want to offend you, but did you changed the second injector from the cambelt side of the engine? As that's injector nr 3!

  clio 172
yep im an idiot and i changed the wrong injector hahaha, realised my mistake last night and swapped the correct faulty injector out. Car is now fine! A little money wasted but then hopefully, the new parts will keep the car running well and they wont cause me any problems for a good while.
I'm getting a little worried about how loud this exhaust is going to be! As long as its loud when i put my foot down but reasonably quiet when cruising i'll be happy

  Meg 225
Glad you got it sorted now, be glad you didn't thrown more money at it then you already did!
Let me put it this way my girlfriend says she can here me coming home from 2 blocks away lol. I'm glad i did get the mid silencer, the gids i've uploaded do the exhaust any justice cause the sound is great! When you keep it on 2000 or 3000rpm you barely could tell there's à performance exhaust on the car but when you floor it it turns into a deep roar and when you relieve on full throttle it pops JUST LOVE IT!!

* is getting excited * :race:

Wont be fitted until next weekend, my mate works in a garage so we're going to get it up on the ramps to make it easier to change.

Just to share, I was running on 3 cylinders, had the error code for injection system (can't remember it but same code as mentioned earlier here). Just change all 4 injectors, running super sweet now!

When you replace the fuel rail, it will feel like the injector o rings aren't popping into the manifold, worried me a lot, but as you screw te two retaining bolts back on it will force all the injectors into place. I I'm wrong and my cup is about to combust, please say, but i could see them all slot in nicely and it runs beautifully now, much better than before.

You only need a 10mm socket and extension to do the whole thing. And some perseverance!

By the way, Fred was spot on, unsurprisingly, removing the rail isn't brute strength it's wd40 and wiggling it like mad.

Just wanted to add to this thread in case anyone searches.

Getting the fuel rail complete with injectors back on the engine is a pig of a job. The rubber O rings on the injectors need to be slightly lubricated with oil or wd40. start at one end and push whilst wiggling the injector into the engine, each injector took me atleast 5 minutes of wiggling to get it in. After you have done all 4 , inspect with a torch that the O rings have gone into the engine and arent showing. After that screw the rail bolts on and refit the petrol tube.

My car is now runs smooth as silk after changing all 4 injectors and replacing the spark plugs. I had my injectors professionally cleaned by injectortune.co.uk which cost £55 and has made a big difference.
