phantom lsd who knows about them

looking into buying one of these as they seem as cheap option, gt turbo box £185 ! im guessing at this price theres a catch what is it ? anyone used one ?

It sits between the main side gears on an open diff, coupled around the pinion gear shaft, as the speeds between side gears change, the pinion twists the phantom grip so it exerts pressure on the side gears effectively locking or limiting 'slip'.

They dont fit in all box's, they relay on mechanical metal to metal friction so there is wear on the phantom grip (basically a metal slab with 2 holes passing though each side then cut in half), they dont always work a)well b)at all c)with the combination gearbox you are installing them into.

Some people love them because they work and are cheap, some people hate them..........most people who like them tend to have them in drag cars.

cheers for that ben, i spoke to a local lad today who told me prity much the same he stressed how half the bits used will be renault parts which arnt built to with stand the extra load which he defo thinks will either break or wear premature, so ill give that a miss i think, im used to a plate type lsd but i think ill have to go down the atb road, or to u know of any others or good / bad reports from quaife thanxs

Quaife are an excellent fit and forget diff. Had one in my 205. Not has aggresive as a plate diff.
