Does it "hunt" for the revs at all? up down, up down then settles?
TBH i'd probably just change it if you've got a dremmel / drill you can remove the actual Motor from the plastic/tubing of the ICV then fit one from ebay with nuts/bolts or rivets (They were about 15-20 quid from memory) So not too expensive. (you may have to search for clio 2.0 rather than 172/182 though as i think the 172 etc ones come up around £50 but there the same unit.
Or you can buy the whole unit from Renault which is over 100 quid if memory serves!!
Mine was hunting quite high 1500/200rpm then would settle down, but as it got worse / started to die it wouldn't idle the car at all until warm. Fine when first started and left to run but any stopping/dipping the clutch would cause it to stall / die untill up to temp.
Even when it was up to temp it would always be low when coming to a stop etc before spluttering back up to 1000/1100 rpmish.
Tried cleaning the icv and it helped slightly for a week or two, bought a second hand icv, same result worked for a couple of weeks then same problem!
Changed the ICV and touch wood it seems a hell of a lot better! (i wouldn't say perfect as my revs still stick occasionally but i've got a new throttle cable to hopefully fix that!). Hasn't Cut out / died on me yet anyway
