phase 1&2 tailgate

Hey guys, does anyone know for definite if a phase 2 172 tailgate will fit on a phase 1 172 clio please? Need a new one and the only one in my colour is a phase 2, anyone in the know please?

Yes it does but the boot lock is different.

When you say the boot lock is different do you mean the mechanism that locks on to the car?

I'll be picking up a ph2 item early next month so hopefully should just bolt on but now wondering how different the lock mechanism is as well?

I'd guess that the lock mechanism is the same (I could be wrong) The phase 2 one doesn't have a key hole, you push the Centre of the diamond to open the boot (there is no diamond on the phase 1)

That's great thanks guys, I thought they would have been the same, renault don't seem to change much to drastically lol it all works on the central locking any way as long as the lock clips in the hoop then it's all good

I have a p2 boot on my p1, as said just the lock. Not sorted the lock out atm, so currently i have to climb into the boot and pull the lever up from the inside to open the boot! Not a daily though and its stripped which makes it easy to do, so not an issue for me.

I'll just put my old lock from my tailgate on if I decide to get the phase 2 tailgate, well, that's if it will fit lol

Although it doesnt clear up the unlocking situation I'm guessing that if the latch/lock mech is the same then it'll be fine off the remote locking but just not manually?

Guys just to be clear then the lock off a phase 2 won't work at all on a phase 1? Or not off the key? Does it open with the renault badge (the button)? Don't understand the answers given some say it will some say it won't, which is it? Lol

I think i might be right in saying the latch/lock works but there is no key hole on the ph2 to unlock it manually. Should work off the remote though.

Someone correct me if im wrong though

Well if the guy who commented earlier Seans6,says he has to get in the boot to open the catch with the latch then I don't think it does tim, just want someone to give a straight answer, either it works or it doesn't

It doesnt work off the central locking on mine. So somthing to bear in mind as if its a road car will be more diffucult to acesss from inside manually.
