Phase 1 help



  200 cup/Btm'd ph1
i'm on the look out for a phase 1 172 and have found 1 local, been to look at it and it's in good condition(few marks here and there but nothing serious)

its a x reg 2000 model with alloy bonnet and shift light with under 35K on the clock and service history and mot's but needs a service and not got history of the cambelt done.
he wants £4000 grand for it is this a reasonable price. the best price for the cambelt is £490 at hill power in birmingham and thats for the aux aswell.
not sure if its had a bump at the front because the front bumper doesn't fit on very well theres a gap under the head light on both sides or is this just renalut quality.

i spoke to him about the cambelt and that i wanted it doing straight away and he said we could talk about the price a little bit, do you think i should try and get the cambelt change out of him or is that just pushing my luck

I would knock him down on the price and get it done yourself by someone you trust.Whereabouts are you?

will the car come with warranty?

for an X reg thats quite expensive, albeit the very low mileage. A warranty would help sway the price.

Tbh, I would be wanting both belts changed, included in the price. And the gap between the lights and bumper is perfectly normal.

from birmingham so hillpower would be a good choice better than renaults £890

by the way zippy172 looks like your phase1 is dead:dapprove: look on pistonheads low milage 1 in essex if you were looking for a new 1

also check for things like worn rear shocks, engine mounts etc... all the common wear and tear items which could help you knock down the price.

just spoke to my dad about it and he aparently went to see it the other day on his day off and offered him £3500 for it and he accepted the offer :D
he said he wasn't going to tell me until the weekend as he has organised another viewing to make sure its the one and lay the deposit down!!

thats lightened my night up anyway

Come down to Exeter and buy mine... higher mileage but cheaper price and (arguably) better looked after than many you'll find. :)

EDIT: Actually read it all - nice one mate. That's a good chunk knocked off, which will pay for the belts being changed.

iceburg silver had a look around and most other silver 1's seem to be titanium silver not iceburg is it very rare

Mine's Iceberg - all Silver Ph1s are I beleive. Titanium was a Ph2 colour. Any plans for it mods wise?

^ Nope, other way around. Most ph1's are 647 Titanium, a few were Iceberg. All Ph2 172's are Iceberg and 182's back to Titanium.

probably gdi's inlet manifold,ecu, cams, itg maxogen and a full yozza system and coilies:D got a bit of money to spend because i went for the cheaper option of a phase1 instead of a ff or cup
Then we can look forwards to some bodies for 2009
