Is this a straight swap between the two ? Even with a cup is it just a simple switch of the different ancilliaries ?

Not 'straight' theres a few bits that are different, ph1 has cable throttle, think the breather system is different too.. Just swap all the bits over if you've got the original engine still. Should grab a ph1 lump though if you can, they usually make better power anyway

i have the complete phase 1 which is a non runner. the idea is to get hold of a new engine. having the option of a phase 1 or phase 2 improves my chances of getting something a bit more readily. i will simply be looking to transplant it all over.

You can swao everything over but will need to retain your top inlet and throttle cable setup as mentioned.

surely i just swap over the inlet \ with throttle body onto the new block be it phase 1 or 2 ? the car is a phase 1 ....

What I think you're asking is can you use the bare engine from a ph2 for your ph1 and you intend to bolt all your ph1 bits onto it. My answer would be yes this will work.
