Phase switch

very roughly ...phase is whether the speaker cones move in or out at the right time, If you connect the two speaker wires the wrong way round for instance the cone will move in when its supposed to move out and vice versa. I can only assume the switch rectifies this without changing the wires over..

I am about 80% sure this is correct. Apologies to anyone more in the know

yes this is correct.. its bass that tends to suffer the most if you have out of phase speakers.

If you speakers sound a bit farty (technical term)especially at louder levels then try switching the phase.

Cheers guys,

ive noticed when playing around with my HU (pioneer 8400) that theres also some sort of phasing option? is it just a case of playing around until it sounds good? or is there a more technical way of setting up to optimise performance?

If you are running a set of components active and your tweeters are quite far away from your mids then you can alter the phase to make them blend better together. Also if you are running a sub but invert it so it is facing into the box you switch the phase.

Basically you want all the speakers to push the cone out towards you at the same time on simple systems. On advanced systems you can play about with phase to get the sounds from all speakers to arrive at your ears at exactly the same time as sound can be delayed buy milliseconds depending on where the speakers are. Quite often you what the speakers closer to play a few milliseconds later than the ones far away to allow the sounds to travel.

The switch you have just switches the positive and negative speaker terminals around. If you have your sub pointing into a box set it at 180 degree if pointing out (normal) set it at 0

To check you can get sound test cds like one that was given free with Fast Car recently, These often have tracks where a bass tone is emitted with someone saying out of or in phase immedaitely, idea being to look at your speaker as it moves, most likely in the case of subs
