Photographing Swirl Marks

  RB 182
Had a go at this a couple of times but with limited success. Any tips would be appreciated. I have a Canon EOS450D with an 18-55mm kit lense and a Sigma 70-300 APO DG.

Cheers

I usually get the swirls in the sun or under a decent Halogen lamp. Autofocus on Macro picks them up no problem at all. But failing that, as the two above me said, MF is a good start.

Or failing that, put your finger on or beside the mark and AF on that. That is only needed in the absence of a limb or lens with MF capabilities.
