photos from iPhone 4 to macbook?

Being completely retarded, but how do I get photos off my iPhone onto my macbook?!

Bottom corner of the photo is an icon of a box with an arrow in it. Click on this and it gives you options for forwarding.
I usually just email them to myself and then save them from the email onto my MacBook.
You can also sun them with iPhoto when you connect up your iPhone and MacBook by USB.

iPhoto doesn't have anything to do with the iPhone on it when I open it?

Definitely plugged in as it's charging the phone but doesn't give me any options to import etc?
