Personally I think the red 172 is the best colour, thats coming from a Silver owner!
I had an interesting experience today. Now my powers of spotting and then flashing 172s is legendry! Any way I saw this black Clio pull out of the junction in front of me. My first instinct was "Oh look at this guy hes stuck a Sport badge on his 1.2". It was only when I got past and saw the silver 2.0 16V badge that I realised it was a 172. My point being if I cant immediately spot a black 172, then your average guy aint gonna know what it is! Some ppl might look upon this as an advantage, but I dont pay nigh on 15K for a car that looks like the base model. All IMHO of course!
I have gone into the inside lane before, after spotting a "172" in my rear view mirror.. 5 mins later, this little 1.4 16v went past me! Not good.. Im sure its the colour.
a Flame Red 172.. You can always spot, as you can a Silver one.. but the others, its slightly harder! Blue isnt as bad as Black tho!
You see a Valver, you know instantly.. no matter what colour !
Even confused a Cup once, because they do a very similar colour for the Dynamique range!
Paddy, thats scary. Recently I saw a red Mk3 Astra which had had the same treatment. Really. The number plate was below the bumper and the space where it was had the word ASTRA pressed into it in huge letters. There were no other features to the back of the car at all, it was perfectly smoothed out.
Wish Id taken a picture now. Im sure Ill see it around again.
