Piggyback ECU?

  Evo
Went to get a quote today from a tuning company to fit uprated cams to my car and they said about fitting a piggyback ecu...:S

Can anyone explain to me what this means, as i know you can map std ecus or get an aftermarket stand alone ecu, but have never come across this setup before.

How does it work, has anyone on here use a similar setup and what are the advantages/disadvntages?

Thanks.

2nd ECU containing a map over rides your map while it is attached but leaves the main ecu map in tact so when its removed you have your standard map left,
think blue fin

(prob wrong)

No, what they are tring to say is this:

"Sorry sir, we don't know how to map your stock ECU so we are telling you this addon is the best thing since slice bread"

No you dont, Standard ecu is 100000000% times more powerful, you would only need a new ECU if your cams were super wild or you were running boddies etc

As above. Pointless. Standalone ECU's are only needed when you require the flexibilty to go out with the Std ECU parameters.

OMEX/Motec/Emerald etc.

Its not a standalone, they wanna fit a piggyback.

Something about the standard ECU can only be mapped within certain parameters and the piggyback will allow more flexibility.

Cams are quite mild...

Ah dont u hate it when every tuning company you go to tells you a different thing!!!

This is turning into a minefield, all i wanted was someone to fit the cams and a poxy remap to suit lol

  Cup Turbo, Flamer
You're in Essex, what about Mark Fish to fit them?!

As for the remap, Sanspeed in Bexleyheath done my remap, proper job of it too!

piggybacks are funny on modern ECUs as they have adaption, which basically changes the map as it think's there is a problem. A piggyback interferes with sensor signals to "trick" the stock ecu.
