Kickstarter, Early Access and the Price
13 June 2013
Our pricing for this stage of early access was determined by our Kickstarter. The stages of our early access for ALL users, which was determined during our Kickstarter, is:

June through August: $90 for early alpha access, during the time where we're still locking down features and making tweaks to the flow of the game. This access is permanent access - you will be able to play through alpha, beta and on through retail. (Galactic Edition Equivalent with all addons)

Ah its made it to Steam now? I saw it when it was on Kickstarter but it was already funded by the time i noticed.
Deffinately one to keep your eyes on but closer to release, i dont get this trend of paying for Alpha/Beta versions.

I quite like it. I'm in the paid for alpha for Prison Architect, and also Automation (which I'm part of the beta test team, which is fun).

I would LOVE just an HD remake of Total Annihiliation. Get some Krogoths on the warpath - the most overpowered unit ever!!! They were amazing.

What was that other canon released as DLC - was like a BB but fired about 50 rounds a minute! Had to build several fusion reactors just to power it though as I recall. Also remember the ridiculous slow down which was constant when you moved your army en masse or set fire to a forest. I upgraded from 32 MB to 64 MB of RAM just to play that bad boy!

I used to love those Sumo units too - hard as f&*k! Awesome mix of ground and air units in that game, with amphibious vehicles/robots on top. I think the strategy still holds up now with a few modern elements added in - such as upgrading your commander a la Dawn of War.

That was back in the days of the 6 monthly upgrade cycle! God I miss those days. Developers pushing out ludicrous graphical capabilities that would kill 70% of the PCs out there - simply knowing that within 6 months, that ratio would drop to about 30%. That push forward, that desire to say "look what we can do, even if your kit can't manage it" is totally lost these days. A big, big, HUGE, shame.

I think the last time that applied to me was with Oblivion. I remember it struggling on mine with the eye candy turned on, and not putting a lot of time into it. Then later in the year I returned to it with new hardware and it was super slick with all the bells and whistles enable. Not only did the game play a lot better (obviously) - but it looked superb too. :)

Selfie quote time ;)

Well I went for the gamma release on Steam as it dipped below £20 briefly. First impressions? It feels funnily enough, very much like TA. It takes a bit of getting used to with your eyes looking and scanning over a curved surface - rather than the usual flat terrain.

One thing I will say (and I admit, it's still only a gamma release - not a finished product) - is that the hardware requirements are sky high. I literally have everything set to low or medium, with FXAA switched off and other bells and & whistles. The game is barely making double-digit FPS on my PC - so it would be great to see just how Scone's hardware (and others) would cope. I'd also like to know what hardware was used in the recording of the trailer - it will certainly be pretty hefty kit!

Anyways, so far, so good. I think I'll hang fire with it until final release for now though.

Just like TA then! I remember my machine coming to a virtual standstill when in big battles on that, I even upgraded from 32mb to 64mb of RAM - which was a big deal back then!

Same boat here. If I have 3 AI, myself and 2 planets its playable. However as the game progresses and they start massing their HUGE armies and they are swarming all over the planet things get laggy. I also tried experimenting with adding more planets, moons and so on but I havent figured out how to specify to spawn on the extra planets.

Either way, seems very promising! Have they added the ability to turn off Nukes yet? The AI just seemed to rush Nukes last time i played.

You seem better off than me! I literally had one planet with one moon and my main dude literally chugs along to make one metal extractor. I made about 6 structures before the enemy AI sent in a scouting fly-over. It was a slideshow as head honcho fired at them along with the single AA-turret.

It is just unplayable on my machine at the minute. ;)

Id imagine its all processor related bottle necks on a game like this, my "gaming" laptop is a Intel Core i7 4702MQ 2.40GHz. What are you running mate?

I think its more the GPU side m8.

My specs are:-

  • Asus Rampage III Extreme mobo
  • 18GB memory
  • i7 965 Extreme Edition CPU
  • 2x nVidia GTX460 in SLi
  • 1x nVidia Quadro card set to purely run Physx

The only other game I have that runs this bad is Witcher II with all the eye-candy on.
