Play in the Clutch release bearing lever!

  ClioSport 172 Cup
Did an oil change on my Gearbox at the weekend. Filled it through the front so I unhooked the clutch cable to make life easier. When i did i happened to move the lever that controls the clutch release bearing. Should there be alot of play in this lever?? I could literally wiggle it about, i took the protective rubber sleeve off and looked inside and it doesn`t look as though its actually attached to anything, it just pushes against what looks like a rod. Are these levers supposed to have alot of play in them or is it normal on these cars? It just didn`t feel very solid or safe at all once the clutch cable was removed!! I was wondering whether it might be causing my annoying squeaky release bearing noise?
