Easy enough to do?

Do copied dvds work?

I have a quite a few films on the laptop and have the Xbox for dvds was hoping I could watch some of them on the Xbox.

I'm a bit of a tech noob. To a point anyway.

Unsure if copied DVD's work.

But any films will play through the Xbox if you have them on an external hard drive, memory stick or some network storage device.

I cannot remember the formats that it supports, but definitely .AVI

Put stuff on from a USB stick?

Just drag any films you want to watch on to a USB stick.

Plug that into the 360, go to Video player and select 'External Storage'. It should then list the films you have on the storage device.

Select one and away you go! :)

Lols. I meant xbox. That sounds better than streaming I think although that sounds very cool.

Have mine set up so it integrates with Media Centre. So all my films show up with the artwork, synopsis etc streamed over the network.

Works well.

I stream directly from my NAS to my 360 through the default Video "App" thing. No media centre, no f**king about. DLNA FTW.

Still, why would you want to have your laptop/PC turned on to watch a film you can store on a memory stick and simply plug into the 360?

Makes no sense! ;)

Same here!

Get's a bit laggy when more than one person watch a film from the NAS though :dapprove:

I put all my films, series etc... onto an external hard drive. Saves space on the laptop and just plug directly into 360 to play. Easy Peasy

Max the RAM out on the NAS and make sure it's a gigabit wired connect to each streaming device, that should sort it.

Have a DLNA server running too, for connection straight to the bedroom TV. However since the Xbox can support media centre with all the benefits that it brings I use that on the xbox.

Same here, saves having to have both the laptop and xbox on at the same time too, it realy is the simplest way to do it.

Films will play perfectly off of USB kev, but only in pony .avi

I'm a .mkv man myself, I've never had any real faith in the xbox for streaming and now I've got a mac I doubt it works at all? (am I right here)

.avi's aren't awful though, so crack on you simpleton.

Mate gave me 500GB worth of films and a few TV series on a Hard drive.

Plugged the USB into the fucker and boom they're all there and work.

Mint!

I've never had a problem streaming video using the normal video app. How the hell do u copy stuff onto the xbox hard drive though. I've got 200 Gb spare but can't figure out how to copy to it.

Is it actually any good cookie monster?

i.e through my xbox?

Yes, it's awesome

I don't use a pretty front end or anything, it just displays a list of folders that I specified on TVersity and plays whatever I like

Just works :D
