Please Help - 72K Cambelt Change & Gear Selector Seal

My Clio 172 is coming up for it's 72K cambelt change. Does anyone know of a reliable garage in South London or East London where I could get this done please? I don't want to go to a Renault Dealer as I've been told that they change alot of money for this to be done. I don't mind travelling to North London if there is a good garage there either.

Also, when I took my car to service, they said that my Gear Selector Seal was leaking. I have no idea what this is. Can someone tell me please and also whether or not it's going to be a very big job to fix? Also how much roughly can I expect to pay?

Dealers charge for 5.1 hours labout its there l;abour costs of £65+ per hour which mkaes it expensive but see what Merc etc charage Renault often arn't that bad.

I'd try Rentech (portsmouth) or Carlton garage (err somwhere more west of there) they have the right tools to do the job (very important) and have done them before now.

All gear selectorts leak a bit depends how bad it is. Fixing quite expensive.

Thanks Edde. I'll take your advise and call a couple of renault dealers and see how much they quote.

I'm not sure how bad the gear selectorts are leaking. I had my car checked the other day by renault in west london as the stop sign was appearing on the dash and that was when I was told that it was leaking, but he did not say that I needed to change it, so I'm not sure.

Gear selector seal wont cause the 'stop' light to come on. they all leak even brand new ones leak a bit to keep the rod lubed up nice.
I wouldnt let renault monkeys touch the cambelt go to a specialist, look in yellow pages for renault specialists there should be a few in london and surround areas or have a day out and visit our boys at portsmouth or exmouth
