please Help Imobiliser

Please help - Won't start - immobiliser light doesn't go out - car cranks a few seonds then stops cranking over even tho key held on. Is it the key or what? I'm really desperate - 172 cup

If the immobiliser light is solid on have you tried the spare key ?

Hi M8 wish I could but don't have spare key - I thought if the key wasn't read Ok then the light flashed - I'll buy a key but at £100+ I need to know 4 sure. Thanks for reply

If the light doesn't go out then its the key or more likly the transponder ring around the key which are the problem.

The transponder rings are a common problem easy to fix just get a new one.

Hi - thanks for the reply - how difficult is it to replace transponder ring? and what do you need to strip down to get at it? Any fitting instructions would be a great help.

transponder ring - on the column remove the top cover this just unclips then remove the radio satelite controls this just pulls out and disconnect the cable.
then remove the lower cover, this has 3 x t25 torx undo them and the cover will drop down.
over the ignition barrel there is a plastic "circle" this is connected with a plug with 4 wires. pull this off the barrel and disconnect it.

a new decoder ring is £25ish and refitting is reversal of removal

This is classic car battery failing, why are you spending money on transponder bits, charge the cars battery !

Hi - nope it wasn't the battery - that's the first thing I tried - battery fully charged and Drop Tested. Bought the transponder and changed it thanks to instructions above - light goes out and starts. Thanks to all

Lucky bugger! I fitted a new decoder ring and it made no difference. Getting the key recoded now. Doh!

Key recoded. Still no good. New key on its way from France. Have to wait 7-10 days. Maybe even till after Christmas. DOH!

M8 - one thing to try whilst waiting - check the battery earth where it attaches to the body. Take it off and clean it up and refit. Mate of mine had a Clio with immob problem and this fixed it along with trip computer losing its memory. Worth trying cos it doesn't cost.

I tried a new earth lead and cleaned the area where it bolts to. Nothings ever as simple as that for me but thanks anyway mate!
