Re: Please Read...

mine was replaced a few weeks ago! make sure you also get the 10 point check! they topped up my break and steering fluids! all for free! On the downside they told me that my front tyres were illegal so that cost me a but to replace them! Although I went to a local tyre place so renault wernt getting any of my money!

Cant believe according to that article that so many people wouldnt bother to go and get it checked out! two of my sisters friends with clios wrote them off and are lucky not to have been seriously injured because of the bonnet hatch! Ive a nice shiny new one now!! :D

Seemingly you should have had a letter sent out (although i dont know how this works if the cars changed hands a number of times through out its life)

The only other way you will find out is if you book your car into a reno dealer for other work itll flag up on there screen that its to be looked at!

Re: Please Read...

I take it that the only way to check if it has been re-called then is ring a Renault garage direct

Its sent Via the DVLA.

Its all blown out of proportion anyway, Cant be fussed with getting mine done, i know how to work a can of WD40 :rasp:

Re: Please Read...

Doesnt matter if you've had a letter or not they'll replace it.

Any sign of rust and it'll be replaced otherwise don't bother they'll just whack a bit of WD40 on.

This is like the millionth thread on it though ;)

Re: Please Read...

If the catch is rusted they'll replace it. Otherwise don't bother as they will spray it with WD40.

The bonnet catch is like any car, it needs maintained. Hense the reason it fails due to the maintanance isnt kept up with. Most cars require the catches to be greased, so if it goes wrong, its a user fault. As the DVLA found out.

Thought most people would check the grease was there when opening the bonnet and replacing fluids.

Shame my bonnet opens the right way for this not to happen. :rasp:

I had mine done at the last service. They greased it and put a sticker near the catch.

come off it, you dont have to be 'trained' by renault to see if something is rusty or not.

When did you do that mate? should i get mine checked?

kev

Kev - as Ben said above, I just gave the local Reno dealership my reg number and they said it was outstanding. Got it booked in a few days later. That was only a few weeks ago too.

I've had the car from new and lived at the same address even longer. I didn't receive any letter from any party (Reno or DVLA, etc) to bring this to my attention - only from what I read on here.

Does anyone know if the same catch issue applies to the V6 model as well? Jain's not had any formal warning for her car either. :dapprove:

Just booked mine in now for the free 15 min check at my local dealers in Crewe. They did say though, if it needed replacement then they might not be able to do it that day, as they might need to order the part in! Another Renault Fail!

Yeh they will only check it, and if it needs replacing then they order the part. No point in ordering something you might not need :)

got mine sorted a few weeks ago. the only problem i had was when they told me they would need to hold onto the car for a day? lol . but after explaining that i wasnt leaving the car and would wait got it back in 15 mins.

watching a jag getting ragged round the carlot by an apprentice confirmed i made the right choice

  Lots of Alfas
WD40 is no good, especially with the heat in a 172 bay, the clue is in the WD40 name. Some highmelting grease needs to be used.

  Ph1 172 + Combo van
how long will they take to do it? i need to go down to the parts department to get something so im going to ask them if its been done on my car. i assume not it looks bad all rusted:S

ill ring to get mine checked but i dont think there's anything wrong with it.

plus its an alloy bonnet so if it did fly up it wouldnt do any damage as its like tracing paper lol
