poor tickover

My 172 cup is running badly on tick over, fluctuating between 250 and 1100 rpm whenever it feels like it. also when i have been driving, come up to junction etc, engage clutch and engine just cuts out, but restarts again immediately.

Previous owner had throttle body cleaned, says that this sorted it for a while - is this something I can do myself? if so any tips or guides anywhere?

You checked the plugs and ht leads?

fitted some uprated ht leads about a month ago (blue silicon ones, cant rememer name) and a fresh set of plugs.

Have since cleaned throttle body thoroughly and given a good thrash down motorway/B roads (sticking to speed limit at all times obviously )

Seems better now, rather than cutting out it just occasionally drops down to about 400rpm for a few seconds, then picks back up to the normal 800rpm

If you saw an improvement after cleaning the body then it would point to that as being the problem. Maybe you need to try a new throttle body.

or throttle BODIES.......

and cams, matched manifolds, re-map, de-cat, etc etc etc

Mine does this aswell on occasions, its wuite anoying.

Gonna try cleaning TB, but im sure its something else.

You made sure the acoustic valve or the throttle body can move freely and are connected properly.

Won't a problem with the vacuum hose from inlet manifold to acoustic valve cause the engine to idle rougher and cut out?.

is the car standard, mine started doing this after i had me matched inlets and cams fitted
