potential gearbox diff problems

right, went to bedford autodrome yesterday and the car was flawless.

anyway leaving a petrol station this morning the car decided to break on me

was selcting 2nd from 1st and lost all drive although the speedo and rev gage were going up .

ive read up alittle on the situation that is could be the common circlip problem, however the guy who recoverd it seemed to think is may be the diff as the is a fair amount of oil around it ???

no sure what to do really i can do the work myself but not to sure about how to source the acutal problem

car is a 51 plate 172

any help is apprciated

rebuild the box or fit a replacement (that has had a rebuild) DON'T fit a 2nd hand unit unless its off someone trusted

Replace the broken or missing circlip, il put money on it

^This, pretty sure he does the bolted retainer mod? Never have the problem again after, plus you'll get a minty fresh box after.
