172 Cup
On a 172 Cup…
I just left the golf club and joined a long line of very slow moving traffic. The engine was cold when I started and I was probably in this traffic for a good 25 minutes. As the queue ended, I noticed the STOP light and the oil light illuminate. I had already been blowing out some hot air through the vents even though the temperature was in the middle, therefore showing normal. I then drove for about 15 minutes on the motorway at 60 miles an hour and again the temperature stayed the same. What I noticed was the heat from the vents inside the car was still very hot. When I got back, I lifted the bonnet to have a look and I could see no sign of any oil leak or oil residue. I also noticed that the top of the engine didn’t feel particularly hot although the thick water pipe to the right of the engine was very hot. The car has recently had a new radiator fitted and also a new thermostat.
What could’ve caused the stop light and the oil light come on? I will check the oil level later when the engine is cooled, but as I said, I could see no leaks at all. Also, would it be normal for the engine to be relatively cool on top but the air coming out through the vents to be very hot? I know that the car running on the motorway will obviously cool the engine but I’m just wondering if I’m looking at some kind of problem here or whether the car has just behaved normally. There was no loss of power or anything out of the ordinary in the way the car drove.
