lol @ you and your 'theory'

i suppose my mates 1.5 almera that is only 90bhp stock wont pull past 100? when it'll do 120 on gps.

I don't know what the drag figures are for an Almera.

But if you put a 90 bhp engine in a Clio Sport it should do 110 mph.

You're being harsh on the slippery little Clio Gordon...my calculations say 87 bhp would be enough for 110 mph ;)

I calculated the above result. That 90 bhp in a Clio should get it to 110 mph. And posted it. Then I went and fed the possum. Then I thought, gee, maybe I ought to check it by seeing if there's a Clio with a 90 bhp engine, and finding out what top speed it actually has.

Wikpedia tells me there's a 1.9 8v dCi Mk 2 with 90 bhp. And that its top speed is 174 km/h. Which is 109 mph.

Anyone else want to argue that my "theory" that for any given vehicle you can estimate top speed and bhp from each other doesn't work?

It's not a theory Gordon, it's fact.

Given a sound known starting point (power and top speed), multiply power by the cube of the speed increment required, job done.

i'll have to try and get a video of the speedo next time then. as for the almera, i know personally i wouldnt have belived it either, but it does, as i did it myself when driving it back from exeter.
