Power usage of Normal desktop PC

Anyone got a rough idea how much power a normal PC consumes whilst running? (just the base unit, no screen)

probs around 300-500 watts depending on PSU efficiency

300-500 is full load on a typical PSU. Doubt it'd be over 200 when just flicking through the web (though really depends what you have running).

Its for my media server which will live in the shed. I don't want to burden the parents by running up a big electricity bill and at the same time I don't want to end up paying a fortune for something left on when I have my own place.
