pptp vs ipsec

right we have a situation at the moment where we have external users that access our in-house systems they are cobol on a sun fire V440 and its basically just character based sending screens back and forth etc

anyway when you use the ipsec vpn via asa5510 it takes 18-24 seconds to launch the application as in double clicking icon and it opening up and actually been able to type the user name

but via the pptp vpn it takes maybe 3 seconds I know ipsec is more secure but surly it cant be slowing it down that much

Hmm not sure m8 - only ever use pptp for windows VPN and all my site to site VPN's with IPSEC (and my cisco/netgear VPN clients). To be fair with an IPSEC connection you have a phase 1 then phase 2 connection maybe it's negotiating this and building the tunnel before the Application launches?

Anything in the VPN logs?
