For a wax to perform to its best and create a really good finish (instead of just being glossy from 10 foot away but poor up close) then the secret is all in the prep. Unless I am applying directly onto a wax (if I had done the week before, say) I would use a QD, and maybe a spray sealant such as CG Body Blitz. But, if not I would always use a mild cleanser (I use AG SRP or Sonus Paint Cleaner personally, but there are many similar such as Dodo Lime Prime, specifically made for waxes) before the wax.
Also, you mention you are using a glaze. Personally, I wouldn't at this time of the year as it will reduce the durability of the wax, as it won't bond as well to the base left from the SRP (or similar) stage.
