Basically lad, the main thing to look out for is the fact that the motors on certain lines of Karchers cannot be replaced.

You have a decent budget which is good. You need to go for a 3 series or above;

http://www.karcher.co.uk/category.php?cat=2&rg=87&sc=1

This means that if the motor ever goes, it can be removed and repaired, whereas series two cannot (price over new IIRC).

Anything from the above list will suit you fine, might as well spend the money on the best you can afford.

Good shout on the replacement thingy about the 3 series Jamie... I didnt think about that when I got my 2.54 from Tesco.

We had one years ago, basic drag along one. Went wrong eventually and was told it wasn't worth/possible to fix it. So this time just went out and bought one we wanted, shopped around for best price circa 150-200 quid.

Btw, that info is from Karcher shop in Stockport area, so coming directly from their biggest NW shop/repair outlet, hence I followed the advice, good on them I say.

Hai

While were on the topic of cleaning re hoovers...

ATM for my matts in the car they get quiet muddy. What i do is rinse them with a medium dilution of megs APC and agitate with a brush and hoover them. Seem to come up OK but is there anything else?

Good man Mike (and Richy, little slow ;))

Luke; for matts:
  • Take out of car and bash them to remove dust
  • Hoover with the brush attachment
  • Spray with a foaming interior cleaner and aggitate with my interior brush
  • Leave for 15 mins to work in
  • Hoover off with normal attachment tube

Any vax machine will do as a wet vac. You want at least 360L/hour flow rate for a pressure washer. The karcher from tesco is a great buy IMO!

Only reason I wouldn't go for the Tesco's one, Rich. For £50 extra, would rather piece of mind. Obviously all down to budgets.

Yeah if Id of realised I could of got one of the 3 series for £50 more I would probably of gone for that.... Plus I had a £20 voucher for Tesco so it cost £60.... Limited budget for OCD obsessions at the mo

When this one gives up the ghost il probably have a bit more sapre cash then and will get one of the 3 series one :)

They are generally very very good items, Richy, so I wouldn't worry. I just know that I will be keeping it for a long time, and it will be over used. So I tend to buy for the future, much like with most of my detailing bits and pieces (bulk buying/saving pennies where ever I can).

Think I've got a 3 year warrenty on mine (not karcher), you must get at least 1 or 2 with the karchers?

Even if it breaks after 2 years or so it's still good value for money IMO. But like you said if you've got the extra money to spend then it's probably worth it.

Yeah comes with a three year one. Basically, the old one we had was a low case one, that we had had for about 5-6 years. When that broke, we were told it could not be fixed. So opted to buy and new one, and on their advice got one that, if it ever broke outside of the three year warranty, could still be fixed for a fraction of the price of buying a new one.

I've used a few PW on cars and for other jobs because my dad used to have a patio cleaning company. When its comes to cars (providing you are washing the car properlly not just relying on the PW to do it all) then you don't need anything to special. I have used a few that were very expensive and had stupidly high pressures, but they had to be run on their lowest pressure so they didn't damage the car. So they had no great advantage! plus think about where your goin to be using it? Any that run off generators are goin to be a fair bit louder than an electic one which runs of the mains!
As has been mentioned before I would def go for one which the motor can be replaced.

^^ that's some good advice, some other gr8 input here also..

So a decent electric katcher PW will do the job grand as I agree with what will said about it depending on how well you habdwash your car, which I feel I do well :)

So any other advice on car vacumes..?

One that can be used as a wet and a dry vac would be best IMO

I clean cars everyday. Have done for many many years.

So far, the best products (VFM taken into account....) I've found are:

Washer: http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/cl-els160r-washer-wi/path/heavy-duty-power-washers

Vac: http://www.ryness.co.uk/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductID=6860

The vax is especially good as you can suck up water without having to change bags/cylinders etc. A complete piece of piss to use and could suck the chrome off a tail hitch. Awesome bit of kit. I bought it on the 2.1.08 and its been used every single working day since and has been faultless.
