Pretty worrying lock question

  Jap Box
Earlier today I went out to the car (Half asleep) to get my ipod.

I hav two keys on my key ring, one opens the door, one starts the car (As their from two different cars)

Now as I was still tired I accidentally put the ignition key into the door lock by mistake, but it still managed to open the door.

The thing is, it will open the door, but it wont close it, it just turns the barrel out of place if I turn it back. So now I have a lock which I assume can be opened by any key but not locked by any apart from the actual key for the lock.

Is this due to a very very worn down barrel?

locks have pins inside which can be removed, nip yourself down to gsf and get youself a new lock set

I dont know the ansewr to your question,

But with my old ph1 key i could open my gf's ph2 fuel cap and vice versa

This happens with a lot of clios. The barrels are all similar so my key could open your lock, but it might not. However I cannot start your engine with it.

How much is this? would I need to take apart the lock or something?

Yeah all PH1 and PH2 fuel caps are the same, I can take my mates fuel cap off and he can take mine, just worying if his key will open my car too ha ha

Ahh right, its just I dont think it used to do it before so I assumed it had worn down. Needs 2 new barrels anyway so I might take the hit on a new set when ive got some more money.

i had this on two different makes of car etc, first was i could open and start my mates Rover 214 with my key from my Rover 416, also with two VW mk2 Golfs I had, didn't matter which key i used on that i could open all locks on both cars. Had to get a new set of locks for the Golf, just put it down to worn barrels etc...

Glad this is the case for a load of people then.

Only the drivers lock is useable anyway, passenger side one has siezed and cant be turned at all :)
