PRIVATE PLATE HELP!!

just purchased my plates and received the documentation. to transfer it over to my car do i need to go to one of the offices as closest one to me is shrewsbury.

Yes and you need your log book, MOT and tax disc.

Sometimes yes. I think they give you a tax disc and send the documents to you in the post or you can collect from them. It changes all the time.

Depends on the local office, some do - I have never had any problems in the Worcester one doing it there and then. But some don't reading posts on here.

I recently did mine at the shrewsbury branch, don't forget to take your documents and it will be done straight away. Also don't forget the shrewsbury branch has recently moved premises, better in my opinion.

I went to the DVLA office in Birmingham yesterday to get a plate swapped onto another car.

They took all documentation off me and said I will get some sort of confirmation within 10 days, possibly 7 days.

hope they manage do it instantly seems all i done so far is wait for documentation come through the post

If they do it instantly you've got 24 hours to get the new plates & tax disc on the car.

Your best off getting the plates made up ready to go on beforehand - a plate maker will do it from your retention form (or go online & get the plates)

The DVLA told me I could put my plates on straight away at Manchester, 3 days later when I called the police about soem kids throwing something at my car they did a check of the number plates and the car didn't come up, apparently if traffic police pulled me over I would be in a world of trouble for having the wrong number plates on. They advised me to wait until the V5 came back through before putting the private plates on.

I've been told both times i've swapped my plates by the DVLA office in Sheffield that you can put your plates on straight away but you do have up to 48 hours to do it.

got back from shrewsbury, they did it instantly gave me new MOT, new tax and said had 24hours get me new plates on. well pleased.
