Probably asked 1000's times but - Should I change Cambelt?

Hi

Probably the same old question.
Just got myself a 182 cup to play with. Cambelt changed 5 years ago, but only done 20k on it.
I don't want to change it, anybody done an extra year?
05 plate done 55k in total.

Cheers
Garry

I went a few months over but it makes my ar5e twitch.. I think it would last but I couldn't risk it and 5 years peace of mind is awesome and at sale time it's a huge deal with these things...

How long is a piece of string?

I was in a similar position before. My car had the belts done 5 years ago but the car had only done 40,000 miles. In the end I changed it because my dephaser was rattly as well. The other reason is that with this car being my daily I did not wish to take any chances. From what I can tell my Clio received its first cambelt change when it was 7 years old with 30k on the clock.

However, I have seen people with belts on well over the 5 year period including a friend's 172 which has been on the car for 5.5 years. I know a couple have been on the car for almost a decade but it is almost a miracle that nothing broke ; the tensioners were almost falling to bits!

It is not something anyone can say to do. After all, it's not our car if the belt lasts or breaks .
