Turn on, starts up, log on, desktop appears, then start icon or any thing in toolbar is unaccesible due to egg timer appearing when you move off desk top.

Mcaffe found trojans,spyagent & other wondeful stuff then fell over........since then loads of probs.

Got lots of 'resource Dll missing' thurs but seem to have got past that......


Tonight i managed to get on here after a couple of restarts......... seems as if not picking up everything on start up.

Any ideas, cheers Steve.

When you get into task manager (Ctrl + Alt + Del) does it show explorer.exe in the processes tab?

At the moment yes, never noticed or looked when prob was occuring.......

IEXPLORER.exe at present 29,368k

Not Iexplorer.exe... Explorer.exe instead.

If explorer.exe isn't in the list then do this:

File -> New Task (Run...) -> type 'explorer.exe -> click 'Ok'

More than likely a virus has buggered your sys files, is it XP and is sys restore turned on?

If it found viruses.

Backup pictures music etc and then just wipe the drive. If i get a virus i see only 1 thing worth doing and thats a fresh install.

Trojan Qhosts 60, Spyagent, Downloader asi, UnspyPc.dr, Adclicker,

Two users on our comp, i can now get on web no probs, yet wife has original prob;Turn on, starts up, log on, desktop appears, then start icon or any thing in toolbar is unaccesible due to egg timer appearing when you move off desk top.

Also when you do ctrl,alt,del & go to users & log off it takes 2 goes to log off???????????????

Ok sounds like she needs a new profile to resolve it.

As an administrator account rename her account to 'username_old' so you stil have the data if you need it. Location of the accounts are C:\Documents and Settings\

Then just create a new account in the usual way from Control Panel.
