Problems watching my new videos

My brother brought his HD video camera with him on our trackday at Bedford this weekend. The videos play back fine on the camera itself but since I uploaded them from the SD card onto my laptop they won't play, it says something about requiring the right 'codec'. I don't know anything about this kind of thing so I clicked on the 'web help' link but that didn't prove very useful either.

Can anyone help?

^^ That will work. Otherwise, install the software that came with the camera. That generally installs the codec that you need.
