Project Track Car?

Right im 17 and my sisters 19,and i was just wondering what would be a good car for a track car,as we are both looking at getting a project track car!Was thinking along the lines of a vts/or clio ?Also the insurance(track day ins)would need to be below 2 grand and around 2 grand for the car!

  Mondeo TDCI 130
Well, 172 if you can stretch to it, but VTS / 106GTI are very good light little cars, can get about 150bhp out of one without major issues, cams, remap, exhaust etc etc!

Plus the VTS is a lot cheaper, you can get a phase 1 for under a grand! leaves some cash to prep it!

imo id get an old porsche 944 turbo but thats me lol
i wish lol would cost a bomb to insure!

To save some cash, can't you just insure your sister for the road and then simply share the driving at the track days?

Id get a Civic VTi to be honest mate if you can get a decent one for 2k, they make 158bhp and fairly rapid.

And itll be more reliable than the GTi and VTS

Should be a little easier to insure although in saying that, track day insurance at 17? Its going to be fu*cking horrendous from the start...

  vtr, 172, s1 rallye
I own a few TU engined cars aswell as the 2.

Id say for track days id get a saxo, they are alot easyer to work on and upgrade parts for, easyer to get parts for as theres so many that have been bent, and different models parts generally tend to fit easily.

Chassis wise they are great out of the box imo, but can be upgraded easily, depending on budget id get a mk1 (even though mk2 looks better) can get a vtr (8v) if you are worried about money, put decent brakes on it and suspension and it will be quick on track, proven when i hammered a few big spec saxos and a 172 on a track day lol.

Vts is the engine to have but insurance???

Gtis tend to hold value more as pug owners think they are worth more than citroens for some reason, even though its the same car bar the leathers in the late spec gti.

any questions drop me a pm, or get on www.sax-p.co.uk I moderate the forum there and theres plenty of people willing to help out if you have questions about them.

Having done 5 track days in 172's, and my latest day in a RWD car, RWD is definately the way forward.

Soooo much more fun. MX5 for a budget track car imo.
