Ps3

My second ps3 went kaput this morning, don't know what to do about it now. Basically you turn the power switch on the back on and you get the red light on the front as normal. Then as soon as you press the on button or the ps button on the controller it just shuts off all power.

to get it back you have to turn the power switch off and back on again then same thing happens. So this ps3 is a dead duck now. Anyone know how I can fix it?

The disk drive is fooked on it btw, I only use it as a media streamer upstairs but its handy to keep the boy entertained.

anyone ave an idea?

Ive had this happen to me twice on 2 older versions of the ps3, luckily i had continuous p[lay with sony so got replaced straight away, however is usually and issue with the power pack/overheating

Dont really think there is much of a quick fix and the efforts people advise you of online ie. heating with a hairdryer does more damage than good,

2 Options,

1 - send it for repair

or 2 (if not wanting to spend money to fix) sell it on ebay as spares/repair and get something that works lol

Well I only paid £30 for it anyway so I'm not too bothered, more bothered about the inconvenience of it!

Been tempted with the new super slim anyway so looks like ill have to bin it!

I repaired one with the YLOD with a paint stripper gun, you just hold it over the GPU until you hear a light cracking noise then let it cool for 20 mins. Been fine since. Although your's sounds like it's shorting out ? They are stupidly easy to take apart if you have a set of screw drivers and some patients. Wear a mask though, the dust is lethal.

My PS3 slim did this. Quick google search revealed a potential issue with the internal power pack/transformer. It has a couple of adjustable resistors that are set at the factory. Opened it up and adjusted the resistors as per the instructions on google and its been fine ever since.

Yeah, that's going to be overheating, my launch-spec PS3 finally gave up earlier this year with exactly the same problem.

Given it had been through repairs at least 5 times in its life, it was time to replace.

The super-slims look nice but I'm told they feel a bit flimsy, not that I'd mind that. The 12gb one sounds like a complete waste of time though, you'll need an external drive for it within weeks...probably

i'd just buy a new one. At £140 they are s steal compared to new. Plus you then have an extra remote, so youre really only paying £100 for the machine ;)

Won't be busying a new one until I get my new house so that's out of the question, if I can fix it then all the better.

could probably live without it tbh as like I said I only stream movies to it so could get anything to do that
