PS3s vs AD08Rs on track

  mk1 Octavia VRS
Currently got AD08Rs on my 15" wheels but they will need replacing soon. I've been impressed with the wet and dry grip and how long they have lasted.

Wondering if anyone has tried both these tyres on track and how the PS3s compare? They are nearly £20 cheaper a corner so unless the AD08Rs will last 25% longer the PS3s are looking tempting.

AD08R is the better tyre to use on track. I've got a set on my 172 and they wear much better than PS3 tyres would on track.

I changed the front tyres on Saturday after doing 12k miles including 9 laps of the Ring and a half day at Blyton Park. Rear tyres still have 4 or 5mm left as well.

Never had Yokos on a car of mine but PS3s have always done very well for me. Brakes gave up well before the tyres at Brands last April. Wet performance on the road is very good too.

I've driven both on track, the AD08R is night and day better than the PS3 on track.

As has already been said though, one is a road tyre and one is a track tyre so you'd hope it would be that way round really :)

These two tyres are relatively close in price through Camskill. According to reviews and tyre rating data, the wet performance of the AD08R is supposed to be pretty good too, even compared to the mighty PS3. What sort of tread depth comes with the AD08Rs as standard?
For a car not doing many miles annually (<2k per year say) but with an occasional track day thrown in, presumably the AD08R might actually be a reasonable 'all-round' option.

I'd go with the AD08Rs in your position with the lack of miles being covered.
Thanks @RS Charlie
Is the wet grip good enough for winter use on damp/greasy roads? Sounds like they're much better than the original AD08 in this area.
I am very tempted given the dry grip and track performance advantages!!

Yes, they're good for winter use. I've had no issues with very wet conditions in my 172 or R26.

I've just ordered 4 ad08r for my s4, its 99% road car, however, it doesn't get used in the rain, I never enjoy it like the dry, so I have decided to go for a heavily dry biased tyre, and long as I can get the heat into them easily on the road, should be a brilliant tyre

There's 7mm on AD08r brand new.

They wear really well too. I've done ~5000 and 6 track days on mine and the fronts only just need changing now.

No worries there, in cold weather you can actually feel them coming up to temperature and offering more grip. You do need to be a bit cautious with them when they're cold, they're not bad by any means but you won't get the performance you're used to from them until they've warmed up a bit.
