Q for a newbie V6 owner

  Clio v6 Mk1

Hi,

Can anyone recommend a good Renault dealer to service a Mk1 V6 in the London (preferably West london) area? Also does anyone have an idea of cost. Needs oil change and new front pads.

Thanks in advance

Cant help with your question because I dont live in London (or drive a Vee!) but welcome to the forum :D.

From my experience you get better service & value at a V6 specialist than you do from most of the offical dealers, mainly because they spend their life servicing 1.2 Clios and 1.6 Meganes, and dont have a clue when it comes to the Clio V6!

Its a bit of a way away from you, but Id recommend SG Motorsport @ Chippenham, not too far from the M4 - Scott will sort you out with a service and pads much cheaper than Renault!

Thanks. Its still under extended warranty so has to be a Renault dealer. can anybody else help? Now that I think of it I have never actually seen another in London oustide a dealer so may be a long shot!

it doesnt have to be a reno dealer.....law has changed , go anywhere as long as its vat registered and uses proper parts... save yerself a fortune as well and get better service!

They will charge you about £150 + vat for a minor service ( oil & filter change + check levels etc ) a set of brake pads are £193.82 from Renault !!f@**!! and the labour rate to do them is 0.4 which is roughly half an hours labour. Personally i would buy a set of pads elsewere and fit them myself. Take your car to an independent specialist that will do the minor service for half the price. A set of non genuine pads can be bought for about £50 ish

£200 for a set of pads! That is incredible. Why are they so special?
That is a job to do yourself for sure.

Welcome,

I use Bridges Renault in Cirencester (outside Swindon), great service & good value (24k service was £220 all in). Not sure about pads, but as said elsewhere, buy them from a specialist & get someone to fit them for you. good luck

That is correct - personally, Id much rather my car was looked after by someone who knew what they were looking at, rather than having the spotty "technicians" at my local dealer trying to do powerslides in the car park behind the dealership after doing a shoddy service, and not tightening the sump plug properly, so losing half its oil on the way home. (a true story from when my mates Megane went into a propper Renault dealer)

Id happily recommend either Scott at SG, or Alex (ClarkieV6) though Exmouth is a very long way from you - nice day out though!

Thanks for all the help. Swindonn is a bit far for me 150 mile round trip. Does anyone know of anything inside the M25 or posibly just outside??

  Forester Sti, SC Clio V6,

anyone can change the pads - its a 15 minute job - as is the oil - any decent independant will do it

Well I have the same problem. I live in SW London and used SMC Woking. It was a complete disaster. Of the 3 faults I asked them to look at, none were fixed and I had the helpful comment further time needed to investigate.

The car was supposedly valeted but was filthy when I picked it up. They changed one of the rear tyres and scraped the alloy in the process - luckliy I picked this up and they have since put it right.

I was so appalled with the service I wrote to their MD. He passed my letter on to Customer Service guy who made every excuse in the book and ended the letter with I trust this satisfactorily answers your queries.

Er, no it doesnt!

Steer clear of them

I am in for a first service in Sept with my V6. I was going to take it to Wests of Clapham (Bedfordshire) they done a headlight under warranty and that was ok, however, whilst I was there I asked about servicing etc, and was told that all the local cliosport owners use them, apparently they are well established and been around for 10+ years. Can anyone on here vouch for thses guys as I want to get the service done ASAP. Thanks for any comments.

OK heres the deal.............1st cant help with a dealer cause I live 100s of miles away :D

Pads some of the guys including myself have gone for EBC Red Stuff £70 front & £68 rear (or vice versa)

As for oil a lot of the guys, including myself, bulk buy from Debra at Total Butler in Castleford its £69 for 24lts............that sounds a lot of oil but remember the dealers charge between £44 & £69 just for the oil................you just take along the oil (approx £12) and the pads and get them to fit save yourself a fair bit of money and as far as the oil goes its save save save all the way from then on.

So the details are as follows: -

Pads = EBC Red Stuff £70/£68 from any decent motor factor.

Oil from Total Butler in Castleford

Tel 01977 603363 (you must ask for Debra)

Type ELF Excellium LDX 5w-40

Cost £69 for 24lts inc delivery

Hope this helps.

Also my car has had 4 services now the costs were as follows £125, £144, £134 and £320 this 1 included changing brake fluid, coolant, G/Box oil and a couple of other jobs.

Oil change is relatively straightforward, oil filter is a pain in the @rse to get to though being at the back of the engine from the perspective of being at the rear of the car.

The belt itself is usually a minor part of the cost. I remember having it done on my Williams, the belt was £25, but every renault dealer I called quoted in excess of £600 due to the amount of bits needed to be removed to gain access to get the job done! In the end I had a local mechanic do it, and he charged me £300 but told me if I still had it in another 60,000 miles to take it somewhere else as there was no way hed be changing it again!

Given that access to the engine bay is restricted from above, I suspect there may be a lot of work involved in getting the belt changed on a Vee, having said that the consequences of not getting it done just dont bear thinking about!

Maybe Scott or Alex will fancy doing that job for me when its due???

Hi guys,

On a Vee the belt change is an engine out job.................the "kit" costs £390 or there abouts.............and Clarkie (Paul) I think he said he could do it for £650 including vat etc.............the thread is on here somewhere.
