Quaife info plz

Hi all,

I dont know anything about Quaife's... Could someone give me a bit of info about them please... Anything to watch out for?.. regular servicing needed?... i know how they work roughly but does the car operate the same as it did without one? i.e: the clutch, gearing etc etc...

quaife what though? you talking about the gear boxes or diffs or what? They do a load of different items, from road sequential boxes to race ones, to dog boxes... what was it you are after? The 6 speed sequential with LSD? If so £7k price tag might put you off a little lol. They last well, but as long as you still change with the clutch when not kicking the crap out of your car.

Andy @ GDI has a race spyder there with that box in, have a word with him as he's had some exposure to actually using one, I only know little bits from the brief time me and 2 live were thinking of getting a group buy going... only managed to get them down to £5+k iirc... still waaaaay too much

The Quaife ATB diff is a direct bolt-in replacement for the standard 172 diff. It doesn't change anything in the gearbox. It doesn't change the diff ratio.

Apologies - i actually meant the diff, the £600ish part (ex fitting kit and labour) for the box.... certainly not the £7k jobbie you are talking about...

Dan, how much does he charge for a box rebuild with shot peened gears and LSD these days? I remember it being around a grand?
 
Not sure, I was pricing it up for mine the other day, and iirc it was £1395+vat... I think. Im taking a vtr gearbox down there at the end of the month if you want me to find out?

i looked into a gripper diff too. they were cheaper than the Quaife item, not sure on there quality though

Looney + Others : Any reason behind your dislike of Quaife mate? - Thats the first ive heard a negative thing about them tbh...

jon. the gear set from frank at avanti was around the £1300 + mark iirc. this was just a s/c c/r gear set, if you included the solid shaft mod, and the lsd, the box came to around £5k built


the group buy on these would knock around £500 off this for a total of 5 boxes.


the other group buy i tried to sort out that noone was intrested in was the sadev box, now these can be had in 5 speed h pattern box, or 6 speed sequential. of course , the seq box is the one i was looking at. the box alone was £6k, but then with the gear display, the shifter mech etc etc etc would be nearer £6-6.5k again the group buy of 5+ boxes would bring this price down to around the £5k mark. then you have the choice of the 6 speed road box, or the 6 speed race box.


never bothered with quaiffe tbh, afaik they only released a diff that would fit the jc5 a few years ago. which was well after the time i was looking into avanti and sadev

k k... sounds silly but are they loud? im sure i heard a youtube vid once and it was awful inside...screaming!!! going to be a regular driver thats all... does everything sound and feel the same as a standard box? (im a noobie at this remember! sorry)

i'd speak to yasser/mark fish about the gripper, i'm pretty sure Mark had to moddify the driveshafts for it to work
