QuarkXpress or InDesign?

For doing what??? lol

Creating? Extracting etc etc???!!!

I don't like either..... but if I had to choose...... would be InDesign as I find it the best for creating/transferring info to and from PDF files etc.

^^^^^ what he said, dont like InDesign and Quark is poop.

Gimme me Artpro any day.

Indesign for me, coz of the extra options and stuff, but really for being stable quark is better, plus is better for print production coz of better options for overprint and trap settings, but i prefer indesign in the end

Indesign

It's what Quark should have been, but they were too lazy and money grabbing to update it.

Better integration between Illustrator and p/shop too.
And cheaper.

:approve:

for doing print design work, creating pdfs etc..

i havent used InDesign before but may be getting it, with quark it seems like theres not alot of image editing and effects on hand,

In general it doesnt seem like a very creative package.

im running quark 6.52.

When we get MacPros in the next few months we will be taking the step across to InDesign when CS3 is released.

Till then still stuck in Quark which I hate. But in the end it does everything I need it to do, any manipulation, editing and vector stuff I would rather do in PS or Illustrator anyway.

For doing layouts Quark doe everything it needs to, the nice features of Indesign are just a bonus. Luckily most of the packaging work here at least gets done in Illustrator meaning the Quark time I spend is very little.

Been using Quark since version 3 up until 6.52 and all I can say is Indesign is miles better once you get the feel of it.

We still use quark for our old archives (althought we use a plugin in indesign to open quark files not always 100% though) and for customer supplied stuff when they panic about using PDF's.

Not tried Quark 7 though but my guess it's the same old.

indesign is w**k for setting up trap and overprint dont u think? tries to do it all by itself and fuks it up

is everyone on here a graphic designer or something? lol always interesting to find out what people do for a living!

i am a 'designer' lol

in InDesign, is it like quark where you have an images folder and all the images have to linked up, or can you just import an image and have it within that InDesign Doc.. if ya get me?

Never really liked Quark - it has quite a 'dated' feel to it these days, whether that's justified or not I'd stick with InDesign.

i agree, the user interface does seem dated. i wonder if can pursaude my boss to fork out 700 smackers for indesign!

i remember the days when quark ruled them all was back in about 93 tho ;) you wouldnt use anything else back then for pre press s**t
