Question about cams

I'm getting my timing belt done in January and was thinking I might as well get uprated cams for it at the same time. My question is would it be worth while putting a set of uprated cams in it ? If so what make is best ? And would a RS tuner remap also be worth while ?

Personally the only time I would put cams in is when the belts are due, so yeah do it, its the most cost effective time to do it.

In terms of gains per £ the Piper cams are best but you need an old set to send away to be reprofiled. Otherwise just get catcams 421 imo.

If you are keeping the car long term and think a small increase in power will help you enjoy it more then go for it, just bear in mind the money is essentially gone as you'll get barely anymore for the car if you sell it and they arent practical to remove and sell on if you have to pay someone else to do it.

It will have to be properly remapped afterwards, an RS Tuner map isnt good enough.

The rs tuner runs the piper cams perfectly. The afrs are spot on. What you don't get is the extra spark advance and fuel to go with it.

It'll work fine until you get it remapped properly.

Ok is it worth while doing ? Would I gain enough to notice a difference ? I've got about a grand there to put into it if I find something worth doing.

You'll definitely notice a difference. I went for catcam 438s and although expensive they really changed the car. Would do the same again in a heartbeat.

Probably down to the awesome mapping skills of @Michael Woodford MST though too.

I have 438's & also mapped by Michael Woodford MST and u do notice a bit of a difference especially when u stuff another clio :)

I've had exactly the same done to mine, 438's , and mapped by Michael Woodford . What a great mapper.
Car feels so much better now. I'm not even de-catted yet.

438s and Pipers are more or less the same and give very, very similar gains on the same rolling roads. That's why I said Pipers, saves £250 on the cams to go towards the mapping

These engines vary quite a bit but generally speaking with the extra airflow the up rated cams allow at the top end of the rev range you will get a lean condition (as the map signal at full throttle still reads almost exactly the same so the ecu doesn't really know any change has occurred)
Not calling you a liar if you say yours was ok but that's not what generally happens when fitting hotter cams so I would always advise people get it mapped to suit.

Is there anybody nearer Edinburgh that can do all the work at the same time ? I don't really fancy a drive to near enough London haha

I think cams really liven these engines up and make then much nicer to drive. No massive gains in power but improves the engine as a whole and if your belts need doing I'd advise it.
