is there a noticable difference between a p4 3.0 533 fsb and an 800 fsb chip?

As I recall there is a reasonable difference between the 2. The P4 architecture is very dependant on FSB speed and cache memory size (much more so than the athlon).

They can also come in different slots now the P4 800fsb and the P4 533fsb one. If its a socket 775 cpu you have seen wont work.

And P4's are just bandwidth hungry so yeah theres a difference not massive but there is one.

If your planning a full upgrade though dont get a pentium. Go with an AMD 64 built will work out cheaper. And be faster.
