Question for an ice guru

  2005 Impreza WRX STI

my sub and components went off today, powered by my amp. there is 12v on remote lead into the amp, the normal power in is ok, the fan is working but nooooo sound! ive checked the phono leads, n they are ok (giving a signal at amp end) ..there is no external fuses on the amp, is there anything i could do? seems like the power to the speakers has gone :( anyone offer any sort of advice/help?

Cheers

Paul

You could try using a multimeter to test the current at the amp and then at the speakers to see if its being lost along the way.

there may be an internal fuse.

did you measure the voltage across the power terminals with 12v on the remote?

  2005 Impreza WRX STI

right.. lol ive checked the phonos theyre fine! got a signal at amp end.

bryan, the gain is ok on amp and head unit mate

12v acroos live and earth and 12v remote to earth. fan is operating but nooo sound

Do u think the sub could be fooked and shorted?

Mine was going into safe mode the other day, found that one of the connections to my fron speakers had come lose so the -ve and +ve were touching.

Amp may of over heated or have you had anything loose in the boot that may of touched the terminals on the amp?

  2005 Impreza WRX STI

nothing could have shorted it mate, nothing ever in the boot. may have just overheated?! i wonder how much it will be to fix? anyone sent one to be fixed before?

CHECK THE EARTH WIRE - some amps wil fire up without earth but give no output until earth is connected properly

well that was the idea of checking the voltage across the the power terminals while there is +12v on the remote. because the volt drop will only show when there is current flowing

Should get two year warrenty on PG amps when installed by dealer.
Date of install was at end of Feb 2003, but amp was reparied after this date as the speaker magnet droped off and when this was being repaired the installer managed to crush some leads behind the dash when pushing HU back in. This then caused the x over to blow, thus affecting the amp which was then repaired.
Will try and find out when the repair was, but PG should know!

Mike

PS just in case you are wondering it was my car and sold it to dean, who should have all the install receipts.

lol i no it was m8.

was the x over repaired? because, the front speakers kept going on and off randomly over bumps. could this have fooked the amp again?cheers mike

Never had a problem with the speakers turning on and off when going over bumps.
This may of put too much load on the amp, when tuning on and off.
X over repaired because of the crushed wires behind HU or dash! ( have you removed dash or HU yourself? )

my mate had this problem, so i took his amp apart to find the phono plugs had detached from the circuit board

mike i did remove the dash to have a look at x overs. i was thinking it had something to do with the phonos (didnt fancy playing with its insides tho its an expensive amp!) lol
