Question for people who got the B&M shifter?

The B&M short shifter is already exist on my 172 MK2 when I got it 4 years ago. But so far, there is an annoying things on it, which I am wondering if anyone can help.

After a while of driving (maybe 30 mins) in traffic jam or hot weather, the B&M shifter got very sticky in shift. For example, if you move the stick from center to the left or right, it won't bounce back to the middle.

I ask my garage friend who said there is a black cover thing on the original gear stick which is locate at the middle between gear knob and linkage. That is for blocking the heat from exhaust.

But my friend said it cannot be fitted onto the B&M gear tube. Is that true?

Any comment? Would be great if someone can post a pic of their B&M from under the car.

I had one fitted to my 5 turbo and didn't have this problem. try taking the leather gaitor off and re-greasing the main joint and see if that helps

Thanks, will try.
Do u drive highway most of the time?

The problem will only happen in hot weather. If the car got cool down or I use highway most of the time, everything is fine.

BTW, the fake leather gaiter is easy to broke :p

i have had the exact same problem and have never been able to find out why it does this when on hot day it becomes harder to use and i have tried re-greasing it and its never made a difference

I had this exact problem on my 106 Rallye with a q/shift, I learnt I had to live with it and is heat related. Only way round it is to shield the unit from underneath, can't remember why though.

Its always been an issue and i've never liked B&M's shifting quality.

They always shift poorly, increase reach, bang on the shifter tunnel.

Problem might be due to the expansion rates of the materials used and the clearance they give on the ball joint pivot.....it get hot, it gets tight.

Hey Ben,

Yes, it is strange to have a American company made the shirt shift but Clio (basically all Reno) are not available in the US.

Long time no talk. How are u?
I found the namecard paper u were looking for.
