When you release the pedal, a small amount of fluid is pushed out of the master cylinder. In a system where the reservoir is attached to the top of the master cylinder some brake fluid could splash out of the reservoir. The RS Clio reservoir is connected to the master cylinder by short hoses so it isn't such a problem.
The main risk is that something drops into the reservoir and contaminates the brake fluid so its best to at least place the lid back on.
