Quick detailer

  Z4
I've never used it before, what's the deal?
I thought it was something to add a bit more bling after wax?

My car is black, so it's washed etc and the next day there will be visable dust on it! Would it be ok to have a wipeddown with QD to remove it?

Zaino z6 gets good reviews

  Ph1 172 (titanium)
Dust will be fine.
Anything else I would be weary of.
I haven't used the z6.
But have used other zaino products and get on well with them.
I use the dodo juice qd's. Do the trick and go a long way

  Ph2 172 Track Toy
Best I've used is Zymol Field Glaze. Like doing a full wax but it takes seconds not hours.

My personal favourite is Optimum. Buy it in concentrate, dilute it down, lasts ages! Smells beautiful and wipes away easy as you like.

I find if you apply a decent QD after rinsing the car following a wash, then wipe over with a drying towel, it dries to a really nice shine with no smears.

FK 425 is my favourite and can be purchased as a US gallon cheaply so lasts a while.

I'm trying to perfect my 'quick wash' technique as I tend to start, then it takes me hours on end as Im a perfectionist lol.

I detailed it not long ago so I'm just trying to keep ontop of it without inflicting damage. It's been clayed, machine polished, and it's wearing a few coats of PB blackhole and AG hd wax.

So in theory a quick wash could be:
Rinse with pressure washer,
wash with a decent shampoo & 2 bucket method,
dry with a good drying towel,
run around with a good QD.

Done?

a quick detailer can also be used as a drying aid, so after rinsing the car clean, lightly mist the car with QD and then dry. this helps a lot of the water that hasn't sheeted off during rinsing to run off. also acts as a little lubricant if your drying technique is maybe a little to harsh.

I typically would do as you've set out above.

I typically have two types of quick detailers. one that is generally water based for using as a drying aid, or that is quick and simple to use so that I can run round the car after every wash to bring back the shine. I then have a more wax based quick detailer for using once a month that will add a little of it's own protection and bring back water behaviour. think Z6 and Z8

Britemax is awesome stuff and can be used as a drying air so a good drying towel and it to dry car then a quick once over with just a microfiber

  Golf GT & A4 Avant
britemax QD is very good IMO, keep thinking of going back to it but there's so many still to try and Z6 & Z8 is next on the to buy list

Exactly what I do, car looks gleaming after that and I always get compliments on how clean it looks. I think the QD makes the difference to the shine after a wash.

I have the same setup as Dave (quelle surprise) with a wet QD/drying aid (Meg's last touch no16) and protection (Z8/carb spritz/C2 diluted 1:1).

What protection are you using mate? Z6/Z8 are both superb. Z6 is just so easy to use. Carnauba based qd's, Field Glaze, Sonus and many others look stunning but sometimes aren't quite as user friendly due to the carnauba.

They are very rewarding if using a good carnauba wax as lsp.

Waterbased mate. I never heard good things about finale or the other one they had. Only a quick play with Finale. Seemed "weak" little like the way LT performs as a QD.

  Golf GT & A4 Avant
finale is OK, very easy to use and can't really over apply like some. kind of care free use. gives a decent shine and is relatively cheap. all i'm looking for in a everyday QD

Glisten is a marmite. didn't like it to start, but came round to it. Gives a little amount of it's own protection, but is very good on removing hard water spots so is pretty handy round this area. can be tricky to use and get the best from hence why it was discontinued I believe, as many didnt get on with it

Britemax is a fantastic allrounder. Its the best drying aid I've used and its great for removing water spots etc.

Z6 I find great to remove any left over film after a wash and make it more blingy (Maybe BTBM leaves something behind?) or any stubborn insect remains etc.

Z8 adds a little protection and looks fantastic. I found it a bit fussy at first but I've got the technique down now with two Poorboys short pile MFs.

Wolfs nano QD is brilliant stuff. Its designed as a top up for their semi-permenant sealant I believe but its a fantastic allrounder and does all of the above very well IMO.

Demonshine is cheap as f**k, therefore useful for odd jobs.

Werkstat Carnauba Glos is quite nice to use and seems to add a bit of warmth to flat red (Gally I know you're not a fan). I bought it on when the 3for2 deal was on and I'm happy to have it on the shelf to use on top of certain waxes.

For the quick wash you've described id use autoglyms aqua wax well the car is still wet you after you have washed it just spray on and wipe then buff off like a polish (advantage no white powder as its a liquid) ;)

I'll be honest mate I just found there was better out there. I would rather use Jett as my QD than Gloss as silly as that sounds. You're adding a layer of protection and some looks. Glos just didn't do anything for me.

You know my thoughts on Werkstat sealants as a whole. Just didn't get on with it. Interestingly John or Clark at PB also had initial issues but rectified it.

Of course when I asked on DW I was hushed ;)

This. Z8 gives a great look (not sure on the protection front) but I found it really hard to get on with at the start. Finally realised how little you need, 1 spritz per panel at most.

On the note of the AF quick detailers.

Finale is just a very basic QD. So easy to use and gives a good finish.

Glisten on the other hand I found to be quite oily. But when you get used to it, it's fantastic.

I've got z6 and I don't rate it. It is very easy to use and a little goes a long way but in my experience it does nothing for water behaviour (did half a bonnet just before it started raining and they both looked exactly the same) and I couldn't tell any difference with the looks. This was after a wash and dry and I use AF tough coat sealant. I'm looking for another QD so quite interested in this thread.

Z8 is very good. So are AF glisten and AF Finale. Glisten is a little more finicky to use but yields better results.

It's not a product for water behaviour mate. It has no protection.

Pretty much. Just a good QD. Lots of uses.

Z8 offers some light protection.

Well that explains that then! haha. Though as hard as I looked I could see no difference in gloss despite me really wanting to haha. What product would you suggest to me to as a after wash top up kinda thing that enhances water behaviour?

Something like AF Glisten. Or Zymol Field Glaze. They are both wax enriched meaning they will enhance water behaviour.

On my black car it's made a pretty substantial difference, far more than I expected tbh! It's still looking good a few days later, a little dust sure, but from a distance it still has a sleek glossy look it didn't previously.

  Golf GT & A4 Avant
GTechniq C3 was pretty good at laying down its own protection, giving good water behaviour and gave a similar darkening affect as Zymol waxes

Still not seen any finale in the 'others for sale'. always keeping an eye out for Z6 also should someone not be liking it????? James23

I love Z6. Used it on the Naples for the first time the other day after a quick wash/hard wax top-up and couldn't believe how glossy the paint looked.
