Quick help needed - White spirit?

Afternoon all,

I've just started to do my front brakes and i've read in a guide to wipe down the discs with white spirit. Only problem is I don't have any to hand.

Whats another way to get the grease off them without having to pop out?

Could work. Just needing something that will cut through the grease and take it off the discs

they come like that when new, coating stops them corroding while on the shelf

Would hot soapy water work?

Neat fairy liquid on a rag, then wipe it all of with some kitchen Roll.

I'd be tempted to go out and get brake cleaner in theres anyway you can mate.

Cause if you don't get it all off the discs it may soak into your new pads

I use Meths usally or any good alcohol based solvent. At the end of the day there the only thing that stops you its worth a few quid on a bottle or meths/white spirit.

The trouble with using anything else is that it could stay on the disc and contaminate the pad, meths will evapourate away very quickly.
