Quick Key Question

  RS Clio 172 Ph1
Just a quickie. I am trying to work out whether I need a need battery in my ignition key, when I press the button it flashes red, should it be green when okay?

Unfortunately my spare is broken. Any advice on replacement would be handy too.

Thanks

Sorry to hi-Jack thread, but no point in starting a new un'!!
On the clio i've just bought, the key doesn't work at all (light up or anything), took it to renault to get a battery and he says the chipset is shot, wants to charge me £140 PLUS labour, this sound like c**k & bull?

Labour? What for?

"Heres you new key mate"
"Thanks"
"Thats half an hours labour"

For £140 that should include the key and recoding it (which is probably what the labour is for)

I got exactly the same dilemma mate. I've heard that some High Street Key-Cutters will do it including coding for half the price. My spare is exactly the same as yours and the end of the other one is held together with Super Glue and tape!! I've got to sort it soon but haven't that sort of cash to give to Renault for bugger all.

Can anyone shead some light on where to get one cut and coded?

Only people with the Renault clip computer can program keys its 0.4 hour labour. then the Chip ie the bl;ack plastic bit of they key is about £60 then the metal key is about £12 (takes a week or so to deliver to a dealership).

The key needs coding to the car imobilser to do this you need all the other keys iused on the car at the same time as they all have to be programmed at once.
