Quick Lime Prime question

Hey y'all...

A kind soul bought me some Dodo Juice Lime Prime and Light Fantastic - I am very happy about this. Now, with regards to the lime prime, where in this order does it go - and does it replace AG SRP

1. Wash/shampoo
2. Dry
3. AG SRP
4. Dodo Light Fantastic

(clay left out cos I did it last week heh).

Never used the AG SRP yet - I assume it's fine to be worked by hand?

Cheers all :)

Yep SRP is fine by hand (although much better by machine) just get it down nice and thin, but use a bit of pressure on application (without going mental!)

Lime Prime replaces this though as you say, and then you can apply the wax straight onto it.

Kind person whoever bought you it though!

If you paint is in good shape just use either the SRP or Lime Prime. For an outdoor kept car the SRP is beneficial as it lays down some protection of its own.

Carrying on from this thread. In regards to the SRP im looking to do this once a month followed by a weekly wax, is it wise to followup with the EGP straight after the SRP every month too?

If you use SRP you will remove any other products on there, so yes you will need to reapply the EGP if you want protection.

However, using SRP every month is excessive, I use it on my own car 2 or 3 times max a year, with decent protection over well polished paint there shouldn't be much need to.

I would tend to:

SRP every 4 months or so, sealed and waxed.

Then should be able to maintain just waxing/ QDing in between.

Thanks guys :)

I see sealant mentioned up there? Is that another product I should be slapping on between AGP and wax or is that just the wax layer?

Sealant is another type of product mainly used to protect paint (although you can get sealants for most types of materials; bricks, glass, plastics etc - obviously specialist car sealants are different though!) They also add to the gloss of the paint, although in many instances mute the metallic flake. If your car lives outside I would recommend using one, even though my car has 476s and Onyx on it, that is layered over some Jeffs Acrylic Gloss Trigger, which is basically a spray-on type product, with similar durability to something like Autoglym Extreme Gloss Protection, just easier and quicker to use and I personally prefer the finish too. Thanks to Rich for finding this little gem a year or so ago now! The best sealant I have used looks wise though is Chemical Guys Body Blitz, which I think provides a really nice finish and surface to wax onto, but not quite as durable as the Jeffs.

However, in the summer months or if your car lives inside and/ or washed regularly you may get away without a sealant and go straight to the wax. If you are using a decent wax it should last at least over a month at this time of year by itself (should be around 3 months at least for most waxes though).

What wax are you thinking of using?

I was planning on Dodo Juice Light Fantastic? So the order would be -

Wash
Dry
(Clay would come here yea ? But I've just done that :))
AG SRP
Sealant
Wax

?

Recommend me a sealent that is easy to find and not toooo prohibitively expensive hehe :) Also, I don't have a polisher - so one workable by hand would also be nice. I assume they're just like waxes/polishes? On with an applicator pad, off with a microfibre?

Yep your order is right. Basically, clay always comes before polish, polish always comes before glazes/ sealants/ waxes. Glazes/ sealant/ waxes should be applied in that order too (not that it is necessary to have them all by any means!)

If you are after a decent sealant I would just get the Jeffs AGT from Polished Bliss as its a very quick to use and effective product. I normally spray some onto a microfibre applicator, and literally wipe on, leave for a couple of minutes and buff off. I find breaking the car into sections works best, e.g. bonnet, front wings and front end > roof > passenger door > drovers door etc.

Sealants don't get that expensive like waxes so don't worry!

Have you bought the Light Fantastic yet then? I haven't used it myself but everyone seems to rate all the Dodo waxes.

The light fantastic was bought for me as a present :) Hasn't arrived yet - so I haven't had a chance to try it - but from the information around it seems to be basically tailored to the colour of my Vee hehe! My car does live outside, and I've never used a sealent on it before so maybe it's time it got a dose. And me and a mate are gonna go halves on a foam lance hehe ;)

So my new order will be -

Foam Lance covering
Wash - Megs Gold Class shampoo
Dry
Clay (not all the time)
Polish - AG SRP/Lime Prime (not all the time)
Sealant - Jeffs AGT (most of the time, put probably not all the time)
Wax - Dodo Light Fantastic

Man, it's gonna take about 2 days ;) Thanks for all your help everyone :)

Get a few layers of the AJT on then wax and then you should see a few months of protection. That said my Silver daily drive is still beading well with only one coat of AJT and a coat of Zymol Titanium applied last September. Has had a couple of coats of spray wax on after a wash and thats it lot.

Dan, if your car is well protected claying once or twice a year at most should be plenty, and that would be with a mild clay like Sonus Green.

I would also consider getting some better shampoo. For the money I like Chemical Guys Extreme Wash or Citrus Wash, or if you have a bit more Victorias Super Soap is very good on a waxed car.
