quick question about mot

hello, my car is having its mot done tonight, but the mot aslo expires today and i know that its going to fail because the right indicator has decided to not work anymore, bloody typical. but i need the car for work tommorrow and i dont think i will be able to get it retested until later on this week, thursday or friday am i breaking the law if i carry on driving the car this week until then. and also would i get points or a fine if i caught driving it.

thanks

read somewhere once that u can drive with no mot and wont get points unless there is something on ur car that is unroadworthy

although u will deff get a fine if caught with no mot

Is there not another car that u can use, or way of getting 2 work etc, buses , lifts, i know its a pain, car was in garage for 2 weeks and its horrible with no car

Maximum penalty is £1000 for having no MOT.

But could get points if there is something wrong with your car (eg defective tyres or brakes)

bugger, well i dont think il drive it.well my tyres and brakes are fine, no major problems. wot my problem is, is that the indicator is clicking really fast when i indicate to go right, but ive had a look and the back indicator doesnt work at all. i cant get the bus to work as no buses go that way, but its only a five mile drive, and quite roads but i suppose thats not the point. im a bit knackerd cos i need to use the car but i dont wana chnce breaking the law.

thanks for the quick replies

I would be up-front with them and tell them you know the indicator isnt working (it just stopped working on the way there), so would they mind having a look at it and fix it to get it through the MOT.

You dont ask you dont get. In my expereince you get good service with MOT stations if youre polite. Theyre often very helful in return because they want repeat business. You could even offer the tester a pint cash in hand (£20) if he can fix the indicator no-probs. (I mean to fix it, not bribe to turn a blind eye!)

This way youll walk away with a working indicator, an MOT certificate, and a car you drive legally with no worries about catching a skanky bus.

well the car went for its MOT, the indicator problem was just a faulty connection and it passed no problem at all, the guy who did my test fixed it free of charge, so i was worrying for nothing and could still use the car for work.

just a dirty connection probably, or loose, had it before, see it a fair bit on ppls cars aswell lol

sounds like a fairly helpful garage, last mot place i went 2

buggers failed me 4 1 headlight pointing slightly higher than the other 1, all they had 2 do was turn a little knob and it would have been level and passed, retards

A bit of trivia for you..............I always put my car in 1 month before the MoT is due to avoid problems like this.................now I hear some of you say "but you lose a months MoT"..................answer "no you dont"....................as long as you have the old MoT with you the new one starts when the old one expires even though its being done a month early :D
