Quick question about Phase 1 172 spec...

  Clio 172 Cup
My bro has just picked up a (2000) phase 1 172 in Pearl black and he has asked me what the spec of the car is as standard - as he has not had an owners booklet or anything with the car.

Would it have automatic lights, wipers etc?

I've not had chance to have a good look at it yet and i'm only familiar with Phase 2's.....oh and i will make sure he registers on the forum asap ;)

Cheers
Craig

  • Some earlier 172s mainly the Titanium silver cars have a light weight saving aluminium bonnet and these can be more sought after.
  • Some cars have an “optimum gear change indicator” light on the dash, this was advertised by Renault to be in all the cars but it seems it’s mainly the W and some X reg cars.
  • Renault also spec the car as having heating ducts that go to the rear but I have never seen one have them. :S
  • Some of the later cars made in 2001 had a different cat that was the same as the 172mk2, the earlier cat is a twin type with 1 sensor. The later has 2 sensors.
  • Its not clear when the production ended but any 172s made after march 2001 have a slightly higher tax band.
  • 16” Oz F1 wheels were available to buy separately from Renault, there are some cars about with slightly larger wheels/lower profile tyres.

Cheers for all the info guys, my Bro is always interested in knowing the history of cars he is buying :)

I didn't realise the Pearl Black was such a limited colour...looks a pretty tidy motor he has picked up (will have to get him to post a few piccies when he gets back from Newcastle.
