lolcarb cleaner and some 2000 grit wet and dry paper.
You can get gasket material spray to clean it off.
Then check with a precision edge to see if its flat.
If its not, a precision edge with 1200 wet&dry, be gentle and stop & check often, you dont have to do too much.
Low points will be evident withing seconds, and if its flat, it will be aswell. But you have to be careful not to bow the surface.
