quick sound question

  E87 118i
amped comps and factory rears

amped comps and 6x9's

un-amped comps and amped 8" sub

which option..........??

Personally i'd ditch the factory's.

Probably go with the 6x9 option. Generally if you don't want to do mega work and just want decent sound, 6x9 is a good option.

in my hear if hearts I know this is the best option. Money' tight so I'm going to connect my existing amp to the comps and be patient for the 2nd amp and 8" sub combo.

Are you talking about amping the OE comps?

I think you'd be better having non-amped after market comps, than amped originals!?!?

Remember that the OE comps aren't run through a cross-over. The tweeters have an LF filter circuit, but the woofers get full range sound....

the fronts are Lightning Audio comps.....rated at 60w rms so I'm sure they will sound better with 50w rms going into each one than what the (sony) HU is currently feeding them.

Depending on what it sounds like with them amped - I'll decide my next move. (really don't want a box in the boot - no matter how small it is)

he must have, unless Renault are now fitting Lightning Audio lol

do what Dink says, if you cant afford it yet, buy a good 4 channel amp which you could use bridged for when you can afford a sub and just run the comps off it for now

im using a Phase RS4

I'm hoping to fit another 2ch amp under the drivers seat......gotta find a small one as I think there is less space than under the passenger seat.

What about one of the self contained Alpine active subs? SW1600 or something like that!?!?!

It's not much bigger than an amp and could possibly slot under a seat.

Alternatively there's a company that makes a 6"x9" sub so you could mount 2 of those on a shelf!?!?!

I'd deffo go the 4ch amp for your comps and sub, what I'm going to do.....eventually, only been thinking about it for a year, got my comps but not put them in yet, I want to keep the std H/U too.
