quick xbox live help please

ok ive managed to get my xbox to detect the laptop its plugged into (crossover cable) and on TV xbox says cables connected with a green light to signify connectivity. i have my laptop connected to the broadband modem via usb and (obviously) im posting now so as you can see i can use my internet fine.

what settings on the computer do i need in order for my xbox to share my internet connection that im using on the laptop ??? is there anything to look out for i.e firewall stuff and do i have to create a shared folder.

any other cool tips or things to do once connected is much apreciated. an xbox is just a pc right, so with my laptop only having 9gb drive can i fileshare or use the harddrive on the xbox for extra storage and how

you can only share the hd space on a chipped xbox.

with regards to connecting to live i aint got a clue. i just plugged mine into the ethernet switch and i was away

Surely you need a router as the xbox requires its own ip address???

on seetings on xbox you can specify all sorts of things i.e ip adress, subnet mask, gateway, primary dns, pppoe settings i.e user name and password for your broadband connection.

what is the key difference from plugging an xbox into a broadband router directly from ethernet port and pluging directly into a laptop ethernet but using the modem attached and working on the PC ? surley if it can see the pc and is part of the same "network" it can access the device through the computer ?

mine has got it's own ip address as do my old xbox and the 2 pc's that are also plugged into the switch

ERRG it working ! says welcome to xbox live etc..haha entered a gamer tag but it wants a subsription code so im going to xbox/connect to find out more

2hrs later still stuck. can get to screen on xbox saying "subscription code"
enroled on xbox.com but when i go onto xbox and enter my username it does nothing im gonna give up and play on PC online instead

what does that mean ? im willing to pay and ive registered on xbox.com with a gamertag, xbox serial number, location, phone number, email address yet when i try my gamertag on the xbox it say i need a subscription code (at which point i imagine if i had a code it would take to a paying section with credit card details) it does say i may have to wait three hours for my account information but i bet you a g-zillion pounds that i dont have confirmation by tommorow

on a side note MS suck, it was a nitemare trying to get onto xbox1 live section as everything even the FAQ is about 360live there are still about 3million or more xbox owners buying new xbox live enable games so why do the MS thing and make everyone obsolete who dont have the latest version smells of microsofts attitude to software operating systems and PC hardware. if i cant get it sorted out tommorow il f**k it off and wait for an xbox360 or PS3

well when you buy a subscription you can only use it for one game(say halo2) is what i've heard.

you need to do it through your xbox with a credit card or you buy a pre paid card from a shop

tried all that its being a s**t with me. i think il leave it until i get x360 and a cheapo adsl wireless router

Just buy a live card from a shop and enter the code via that.. any good gaming store will sell you it.
